Written & Performed by Desiree Burch
Directed by Isaac Byrne
“52 Man Pickup,” is a salacious evening of storytelling and stand-up starring New York alt-comedy diva Desiree Burch and a deck of playing cards. With a shuffle of comedy, poetry, sex and card games, the audience helps Desiree “go fish” through her deck of hilariously true and unadulterated encounters with firemen, construction workers, pirates, artists, teachers, rockers, bartenders, male cheerleaders and more!
Each card is a mystery of intimacy – every suit a chance to win, lose or draw. Whether audience members find themselves in Desiree’s cards or next to her on stage, they soon learn: Being naked invokes more questions than answers.
“52 Man Pickup” is the fourth in a repertoire of five full-length solo performances by Desiree Burch, which includes Tar Baby, Greatest Hits, Careless and The Sit-Down Show. Desiree began developing 52 Man Pickup in 2006 through her regular creation and performance in the New York Neo-Futurists’ Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind, and as the host/curator of SMUT at Galapagos Art Space, where she honed her cabaret emcee talents.
“52 Man Pickup” is directed by Isaac Byrne and was originally produced by GLAAD Media Award winner Working Man’s Clothes and the New York International Fringe Festival. “52 Man Pickup” has toured many venues, including the New York, New Orleans, Hollywood, Edinburgh and Camden Fringe Festivals.
